Tiktok: "When English is not Your First Language"
When I was searching on the internet, one of TikTok's tags "when English is not your first English" caught my eye. Under this tag, most of the videos are TikToker's reactions to selections of movies or comedian jokes. The ideology behind it is that (1) English is a highly social evaluted currency; (2) speakers are required to learn them to "be able to participate fully in their political, economic, and social life" (Lippi-Green 87); (3) a speaker who does not have English as the first language is unable to communicate proficiently. I think these videos serve as proof of rationalization of the English-only movement.
