Typing in Arabic

You must install an Arabic keyboard to type in Arabic. Macs and PCs may have slightly different keyboard layouts.

You can also choose to use an Arabic QWERTY keyboard that maps Arabic characters onto Latin characters with similar pronunciation. This keyboard is not commonly used in Arabic-speaking regions.

Typing help for Macs

  • Set up your computer to type using an Arabic keyboard layout.
  • Use the keyboard viewer to view the Arabic keyboard layout while you type. This may be especially useful as you are adjusting to the Arabic keyboard layout.
