Visiting Assistant Professor of Statistics
Mathematics and Statistics Department
Division of Mathematical and Natural Sciences

I am an applied statistician and data scientist. My research interests generally relate to small area estimation, an aptly named field of statistics that I was introduced to while writing my senior thesis at Reed, where we develop methods to produce statistically-defensible estimates in areas with small sample sizes. Specifically, I am most interested in implementing model-based and hierarchical Bayesian techniques, developing methodology to better assess small area estimators, and applications to forestry, ecology, and natural resource problems. I am passionate about mentoring undergraduate students on research projects and have served as the co-director of the Undergraduate Forestry Data Science Program at Harvard University and Bucknell University. I hold active research collaborations with the U.S. Forest Service and serve on the research and development panels of their Partnership for Small Area Estimation. I received a B.A. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics from Reed College, an M.S. in Statistics from Michigan State University, and am completing a Ph.D. in Forestry from Michigan State University.
