Michael Neubauer is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Reed College. As an applied microeconomist, his research focuses on urban, development, and environmental economics, with a particular interest in the economic effects of migration. His current work examines how population movements reshape the communities left behind, with applications to the Great Migration as well as contemporary American suburbs. At Reed, he teaches courses on urban economics and migration. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University in 2025, and his B.A. in Economics and Chinese from Williams College in 2015.
