Faculty Profiles

Tatyana Castillo-Ramos earned her Ph.D. from Yale University in Religious Studies with a concentration in American Religious History, and is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Reed College. She specializes in the performance of Latine/x and/or religious identities for intended consumption in political and virtual spaces. She has published on Latinx activists in U.S.-based sanctuary movements in various peer-reviewed publications including the journal American Religion, as well as in edited volumes such as Latin American and US Latino Religions in North America: An Introduction (2024) Religion in the Américas: Transcultural and Transhemispheric Approaches (2025) and the upcoming Sacred Refuge: New Histories of the Sanctuary Movement (2026) with NYU Press. She’s also interested in the intersection of religion and popular culture, particularly in relation to video games, as seen in her most recent article in the Journal of Latino Studies, “Virtual Saints, Digital Deviants: Catholicism and Mexican/Mexican American Representation in Video Games.”
