American Studies colloquium: Empire and exceptionalism in American culture

American Studies juniors Katharina Schwaiger and Ben Steele will lead a discussion of Matthew Frye Jacobson's recent address to the American Studies Association, "Where We Stand: U.S. Empire at Street Level and in the Archive." Lunch will be provided. Attendees are strongly encouraged to read Jacobson's address before the colloquium. It is available on the American Studies Moodle, along with two other recommended essays on imperialism and exceptionalism in American culture.
