Celebrating Towny Angell on December 17

Towny Angell, director of facilities services, will be retiring on December 20, 2019! Towny's accomplishments over his 31 years at Reed College are far too significant and numerous to acknowledge in this message. Many of you know that he began his work at Reed in 1988 as the leader of the grounds crew. During Towny's time, and with his project oversight, we built Gray lounge, the Grove residence halls, the Performing Arts Building, Trillium residence hall and both bridges over the canyon. His oversight of capital projects has extended to renovations of each and every building across campus over this time.

Towny's role as director included the important responsibility of advancing Reed's master plan with the City of Portland, and many of the features of our gorgeous and functional campus today are due to his tenacity and skill as a partner in our community. Finally, I cannot mention Towny's accomplishments without noting that with a generous donation from an alum in 1998, Towny, along with many others on campus, began the rehabilitation of the Reed canyon. Towny and Zac Perry noted the return of salmonids to our fish ladder in March 2009. Towny, we can't thank you enough for all you have done for Reed College.

We will be celebrating Towny on Tuesday, December 17, at 3:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Performing Arts Building. We hope you will join us!
