Mae Ngai is professor of history and Lung Professor of Asian American Studies at Columbia University and is a US. legal and political historian interested in immigration, citizenship, and nationalism. Professor Ngai will compare and contrast the experience and conditions of possibility for socio-economic mobility for the two great waves of labor migrants to the US, those at the turn of the twentieth century and those at the turn of the twenty-first.
