APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN FOR 2013-2014. The deadline to apply is November 18. CLICK HERE TO APPLY.

The online application must be submitted, along with a resume sent to beyondreed@reed.edu

The Reed College Financial Services Fellowship is a career exploration program that allows students, who are interested in financial services and/or quantitative fields of work, to gain insight into career options in the financial services industry through a short-term field trip to New York City.  The second annual trip will give a group of up to 8 students, selected through a competitive application process, the opportunity to meet alumni and financial leaders.  The trip will include a business dinners with alumni and trustees of the College; an opportunity the next day to shadow professionals in the workplace to get a sense of day to day operations, to discuss specific jobs and careers in the field, to take a tour of a trading floor; more 1:1 or group meetings on day 3 and the morning of day 4, then return to Portland (or stay on your own to explore the city for a couple of days).  The plan is to leave Portland on Sunday, March 16, and return to Portland on Thursday, March 20 (with the option for a flexible return date).  Pre-departure workshops on networking, resume writing, and intro to markets will be held as well.  All expenses are paid through the generosity of a Reed trustee.

Goals:

Allows selected interested students to learn more about specific career options and companies in financial services.
Provides employers in these fields an opportunity to meet bright, engaged candidates for future recruitment.

Candidates for the Reed College Financial Services Fellowship must be currently enrolled at Reed with sophomore or junior standing.

Those applications that demonstrate strong analytical skills will be favored, although math and quantitative courses are not required.  One of the objectives of the program is to expose students from all disciplines to the wide variety of roles in the financial services industry.

The application process includes a series of questions designed to allow the selection committee, composed of Reed College investment committee trustees, to learn who you are and why you are interested in being a Reed College Financial Services Fellow.  A resume is also required.  Top candidates will be selected for a telephone interview with selection committee members.  Fellows will be announced around mid-December.  If you are selected, you will be asked to confirm your interest, commit to the trip, and engage in some preparation, including shopping for business wardrobe with some of the fellowship funds, during early spring semester.
