community engagement & outreach
The Office of Special Programs plans and organizes a series of community engagement programs on behalf of the college. All of our programming is offered at no cost to community members.
We bring Reed and high school students together through our Faculty Speakers Bureau, Young Scholars Program, Latin Forum, Theatre Symposia, and MathFest. Our Open Days programming allows all members of the greater Portland community to drop in to Reed's biology, chemistry, and physics departments, engage with Reed science faculty, and participate in lab experiments.
Faculty and staff members share their expertise through talks and presentations at Portland-area high schools and clubs and community organizations.
Area high school students and teachers get first-hand experience with a mathematical topic during this workshop sponsored by the Reed College mathematics and statistics department.
Reed faculty work for a day on campus with area high school students and teachers on a topic about the ancient Romans. Students must be in high school and currently or recently enrolled in a Latin course to participate.
Visitors to campus drop in to Reed's biology, chemistry, and physics departments, engage with Reed science faculty and staff, and participate in lab experiments. Open to the Portland community.
Complimentary tickets for faculty-directed theatre productions are available on designated dates for high school students and teachers. Following the production, the director, cast, and technical crew offer a brief “talk back.”
Scholarships allow high school students from the greater Portland metropolitan area who are ready for part-time, rigorous college study to take one college class at Reed each semester for the full academic year while concurrently enrolled in high school.
