About Reed

Intellectual. Inspiring. Transformative.

Reed is a coeducational, independent liberal arts and sciences college located in Southeast Portland, Oregon. Referred to as one of the most intellectual colleges in the country, we are known for our high standards of scholarly practice, creative thinking, and engaged citizenship.

As a Reed student, you can pursue a bachelor of arts degree in one of our 26 academic departments. We offer 38 majors, 13 of which are interdisciplinary, and you can even create your own major with college approval. Our curriculum includes a yearlong humanities course, broad distribution requirements, and a senior thesis.

Our professors will be your mentors and advocates. They adhere to conference-style teaching, which leads to stimulating discussion, subject mastery, and unparalleled critical thinking skills. Reed also offers a graduate program that leads to a master of arts degree in liberal studies, allowing for a flexible and diverse interdisciplinary course of study. We welcome you to explore Reed College—a place where academic rigor and a commitment to intellectual inquiry thrive.
