Description

Latinx Student Union (LSU) is dedicated to providing a network of support and services for Latinx/Hispanic-identifying Reedies. LSU is here to recognize and vocalize the challenges of being a cultural minority at Reed (the Latinx identity encompasses all races, including Afro-Latinxs and Asian Latinxs), and how Latinx/Hispanic identities intersect with other salient issues like those relating to class, gender, language, family, and culture. Our group is dedicated to being a resource for Latinx Reedies, as well as promoting multiculturalism for the greater Reed community. We recognize that within our own community, certain members experience greater privileges than others; this can be due to colorism, classism, and anti-blackness. One of our goals this year is to address intersectionality and privileges within our own community. Moreover, we want to combat racism and xenophobia. Programming will include activists, artists, and speakers, in addition to community dinners and trips to Latinx-owned businesses.
