Reed College subsidizes the off-campus Federal Work-Study (FWS) program in an effort to promote connections between the college and the Portland community and to support students in finding meaningful work off-campus.

Students who have a Federal Work-Study allocation (different from "Reed Work Study") listed in their Financial Aid package and who complete additional off-campus Federal Work-Study paperwork are eligible. Are you a FWS-eligible student who is interested in finding out more about approved off-campus FWS sites? Check out the opportunities and complete the required steps.
Many organizations can qualify as Federal Work-Study host sites. Private nonprofit organizations and federal, state, and local public interest agencies are potentially eligible. FWS interns may not participate in political activity or further a religious agenda.
Yes, as an unpaid intern. Most of our community partners offer these internship and volunteer positions as unpaid for students who are not FWS-eligible. We recommend you contact the organization before applying to confirm that they offer unpaid positions.
Unfortunately, international students are not eligible for Federal Work-Study awards; therefore, you would not be able to participate as a paid intern. However, you are welcome to apply for these positions as an unpaid intern.
