Chapters

Boston

The Boston chapter had a pair of events in March. First, we explored the spicy offerings at Coolidge Corner’s finest Thai restaurant, Dok Bua. A few weeks later, we had a winter potluck and games night. Both gatherings turned up a good number of attendees, suggesting that a new wave of younger graduates have moved into the area. Among our summer activities, we plan to have a picnic outing in conjunction with the annual free Shakespeare performances on Boston Common, July 24–29.

CHICAGO

A dozen hungry Reedies (plus a handful of guests) gathered in February for our annual Chinese New Year dim sum brunch at Three Happiness Restaurant in Chinatown. Also, in early March, five of us attended Lee Blessing’s (’71) play Thief River at the Side Project Theatre in North Chicago (thanks to David Perry ’73 for organizing this terrific event!). Don’t miss the annual new-grad pizza and beer party on June 11, as well as a family picnic in Grant Park later in the summer. Keep an eye out for more information, or contact new co-chair Julia Chamberlain ’03 at julia.chamberlain@alumni.reed.edu. New, old, and visiting alumni are always welcome. We hope to see you this year!

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

The book group continues to meet monthly, usually in the afternoon on the second Sunday of the month. The next scheduled event will probably be the new-grad pizza party on June 11; stay tuned for details. The annual picnic is scheduled for August 5; entering and returning students are invited, as well as alumni. A solstice party is probable in early December. PORTLAND

Our wildly popular monthly “Thirsty Third Thursday” brewpub gatherings are going strong, and in December we put on the traditional Feeding Frenzy during reading week to provide bodily sustenance to Reedies studying hard for final exams. Remember to save October 19–21 for our Westwind weekend at the coast. We would love to have some out-of-town attendees. See you at Reunions in June!
