The New York Times crossword puzzle for October 25, 2003, asked solvers for an “Oregon college” for 11 down, four letters. The solution was, of course, Reed. Reed has been a Times crossword puzzle answer several times in the past few years.


Reed debaters hold forth

Reed’s student debate team is #10 in the nation, according to rankings issued by the National Parliamentary Debate Association. All of the schools ahead of Reed have larger squads and a long history of participation in debate—and Reed’s team has been in existence for only two years. Individual team members have received over 10 awards this semester, including Torrey Shineman, who won the first place award in novice debate at two tournaments, and Misha Isaak, who received the top prize in impromptu speaking.
