"I just happened to be born at the right time," said Sarah Burgard '97, tilting her head back to laugh delightedly as she explained her attraction to the re-emerging nations of Eastern Europe. "This whole notion of human potential is completely exciting." As a Robert G. Chollar Summer Research Assistant--one of only six students chosen each year by the Kettering Foundation--Burgard spent last summer studying community potential--the small things that groups of people can do to attack society's dauntingly large problems. She plans to use this experience as she pursues degrees in sociology and law and then work with growing Eastern European societies.
