Students living in Bidwell House decorated the residence hall on October 3 to welcome a visit from the Bidwell family, and friends and family members came from as far away as France to celebrate the dedication, which coincided with the college’s fall meeting of the board of trustees. Remarks from President Diver and Board Chairman Dan Greenberg ’62 touched on the importance of family to the Bidwells, and noted that their gift enabled Reed to build a sense of community into the design of the four new dorms on the northwest corner of campus. Archivist Gay Walker ’69 gave a presentation on the history of residence halls during Reed’s first 100 years.

Bidwell, who did not attend Reed, said he treasures the education he received while serving on its board with mentors like John Gray, who also spoke at the dedication, and the late Walter Mintz ’50.
