What is Parent Orientation?
Parent & Family Orientation is a special program that runs concurrently with New Student Orientation. It is also a transition from high school to college.

What activities should I attend during Orientation?
Choose the sessions that look most interesting to you; the more sessions you attend, the more comfortable you will feel leaving your student at the conclusion of Parent & Family Orientation. Also, students are strongly encouraged to be at several key sessions during the week, as indicated in the Orientation schedule. Please encourage your student to attend as many sessions as possible—the more familiar students are with the campus and their classmates, the easier the transition from home to Reed will be.
What are Pre-Orientation Programs and Experiences?
Pre-orientation experiences are four-day, small group experiences that take place the weekend before New Student Orientation. Students can participate in either SEEDS Community Engagement Experiences or Outdoor Experiences. Both begin on Friday, August 23. Students attending a pre-orientation program will be able to also attend an experience.
If my student goes on a pre-orientation experience, what do I do between Friday check-in and Monday?
Here are a few great options:
- Accompany your student to check-in on Friday. Then spend time exploring all that Portland and Oregon have to offer. Beaches, mountains, the Columbia River Gorge, and the high desert are all about 90 minutes from town.
- Send your student ahead. Meet up at Reed on Monday as the activities conclude and Parent & Family Orientation begins.
- Accompany your student on Friday to check-in and then head home. We’ll miss you at Parent & Family Orientation!
May I drive up to the residence hall to unload?
