Hayfa Achour ’19Pronouns: she/her/hers
Senior Orientation Coordinator
Hometown: Island of Djerba, Tunisia
Hi! My name is Hayfa and I am a Political Science Junior. I grew up in Tunisia and then I moved to South Africa for school before coming to Reed College. I am very passionate about political philosophy and I have an interest in studying conflict, war, torture and ethno-religious coalitions. I love celebrating diversity and culture-sharing. The Reed community has been a very welcoming embrace for me to pursue my academic ambitions and my personal passions. I am looking forward to working on the 2019-20 orientation and welcoming all of you to Reed College!
Hometown: Jakarta, Indonesia, and Mumbai, India
I am currently an Economics or ICPS-Econ major and am very interested in the economies of developing countries, especially in South and South East Asia. I was born in Mumbai, India but grew up in the lovely city of Jakarta in Indonesia. Being far away from home has been hard, but Reed has soon become home! In my spare time, I enjoy cooking monthly (elaborate) dinners with my friends, riding the Max, reading sappy romcoms and watching space-related documentaries or Grey’s Anatomy with my roommate.
I’m a music major with an interest in electronic music. Apart from studying music, I’ve been enjoying taking Russian at Reed for the past two years. I'm from the small college town of Davis, California and have found the change to the cooler climates of Portland to be very welcome. I spend a lot of time collecting records, cycling across Portland, and trying new recipes out in the kitchen.

Gray Campus Center 104
Hometown: Caldwell, Idaho
I love skiing with my two boys and wonderful spouse, cooking great meals, and traveling outdoors. My favorite thing about Reed College is my job. I love to program outdoor activities for the students to explore the Pacific Northwest.
Peer Mentor Program and Office for Inclusive Community
My name is Ruby Joy White (She/Her/Prince) and this will be my third academic year at Reed! Running the Multicultural Resource Center has been an amazing experience, with my favorite part being connecting with students. I enjoy creating and developing programs for students holding marginalized identities. I believe connecting our work to the campus community and greater Portland community is imperative to the development of inclusive and equitable educational opportunities. In my free time, I enjoy writing, listening to music (Drake!!!!), being around water, plants, and flowers, baking, creating stylish looks, and being irrationally afraid of whales and moths. I look forward to meeting you all!
SEEDS Community Engagement

Hometown: Portland, Oregon
This is my third year as the SEEDS Program Manager. I'm excited to meet incoming students and work together to foster strong connections between Reed and the surrounding community. Outside of work, I love spending time outside, writing, reading, engaging in Portland’s arts communities, and connecting with friends and family over food.
