Office for Institutional Diversity

April 12, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

All around campus, conversations around community building, safety, and the general well-being of Reed staff with marginalized identities have been taking place. The Office for Institutional Diversity, in partnership with the newly formed Staff Committee on Diversity, wishes to gauge the staff's interest in establishing affinity groups, or cultural and identity specific gathering spaces where staff members with a shared identity can connect online and/or in person.

If you are interested in participating in and/or co-leading a staff affinity group, please fill out this form by April 19. We acknowledge that many of us hold multiple identities, and we invite you to express your interest for multiple groups. You may even suggest a group for an identity not listed.

If there is sufficient interest, the college will launch as many as three affinity groups in Summer 2021, with more groups to follow. The Staff Committee on Diversity and the Office for Institutional Diversity will provide an update on staff affinity groups within the month of May. Thank you for your consideration.

On behalf of the Staff Committee on Diversity,

Mary James, Dean for Institutional Diversity
Ann Matsushima Chiu, Social Sciences Librarian
Dev Devvrat, Assistant Dean of Admission
Doris Hall, Office Manager, Facilities
Hayden Todd, CLBR Career and Fellowship Advisor
Michelle Valinitis, Director of Human Resources
Zakiya Rhodes, Administrative Manager, Health and Counseling
