Reed students, staff, faculty, and alumni were invited to enter the Inauguration Bookmark Contest in honor of the inauguration of Audrey Bilger as the 16th president of Reed College. The theme of the contest was "the ampersand." The ampersand originated as a ligature of the letters "e" and "t", from the Latin word et, meaning "and." The symbol, in its ability to join surrounding elements, represents the leadership of Reed College, which seeks to inspire excellence in the Reed community and beyond through collaboration, inclusion, and connection. The contest asked that each submission include an ampersand, an element of calligraphy, and an artistic interpretation of either the griffin or the words "Reed" or "Reed College".
We are thrilled to share with you the winners and runners-up of the contest. The winning bookmarks will be handed out at the installation ceremony and all the bookmarks (winners and runners up) will be available after the inauguration at the Reed College library and Commons while supplies last.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
