  • PhD Candidate, Johns Hopkins University
  • Kalina Hadzhikova is studying medieval historiography at Johns Hopkins University. Her focus is on historical writing produced in medieval Europe and the characteristics of medieval culture and society that those texts’ engagement with the past reveals. As a graduate student, she plans to produce a piece of original research on the documented existence in late medieval and early modern Europe of men who believed they were made of glass.

“The history department at Reed,” says Kalina, “with its internal distribution requirements and junior seminar, encourages students to take courses in different subfields and venture outside of their specific area of interest, which did wonders for me and is something I would recommend to every prospective history major.”
