GLS Symposium 2015

Reed College Eliot Hall

2015 Graduate Liberal Studies Symposium

June 19 - 21, 2015
Hosted by the Reed College Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program

Welcome program directors, current students and alumni of west coast GLS programs! The ninth annual west coast joint Graduate Liberal Studies Symposium continues the tradition started by Stanford University and Dominican University of California in 2007 of developing a sense of academic community among our respective GLS programs through a weekend of intellectual and social interaction. This interdisciplinary symposium provides a congenial and supportive opportunity for students and alumni to present papers to an audience of their peers, to participate in lively discussions, and to meet fellow GLS students from other schools.  We also encourage non-presenting students and alumni to attend the symposium.

Since 2008, the participating programs have expanded to include several west coast GLS programs, along with Maastricht University in the Netherlands:

Dominican University of California
Maastricht University
Marylhurst University
Mount St. Mary's University
Reed College
San Diego State University
Simon Fraser University
St. John's College Santa Fe
Stanford University
University of Washington, Tacoma

Primary accommodations will be in dormitories on the Reed campus.  The symposium will open Friday with registration starting at 4:00 pm followed by a welcome dinner.  On Saturday, panel presentations are scheduled all day with breakfast and lunch included. An Evening reception will foster conversation among symposium participants and allow for dinner plans.  Panel presentations will continue Sunday morning after breakfast and conclude with a group meeting. There is no cost to students and alumni to attend the symposium, other than travel and lodging.
