Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology

The Biology Department at Reed College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor beginning with the 2024-25 academic year.  Reed College is a highly selective liberal arts institution with a distinguished record of educational accomplishment and a strong commitment to faculty and student scholarship (http://web.reed.edu).

We seek applicants with a PhD (required), and post-doctoral experience (preferred) in animal behavior. Teaching responsibilities will include an upper level lecture/lab course in Animal Behavior, an advanced seminar course in the candidate’s area of expertise, a contribution to the department’s course offerings at the introductory level and advising of senior thesis research projects. Available facilities for research with students include laboratory space, a wide range of standard equipment (including that required for molecular biology, histology, microscopy, hormone analysis, specimen preparation and storage, experimentation, and field work), and access to the onsite Biology Stockroom. Facilities for conducting live animal research (currently used for fish) may be available and reconfiguration for other systems is negotiable.

Reed College is a community that values cultural diversity and inclusive educational practices as essential to the excellence of our academic program. In your application materials, please address how your teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and/or community service has supported these values and how your work at Reed will support the commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion articulated in Reed College's diversity and anti-racism statements (https://www.reed.edu/diversity/).
