Visiting Assistant Professor in Statistics

The Reed College Mathematics Department invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professorship in statistics to begin in Fall 2019. Applicants should have a Ph.D. (in hand or very near completion by the time of appointment) and be committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship in statistics. Candidates with degrees in fields outside of mathematics or statistics may be considered if they have sufficient training in statistics.

The successful candidate is expected to teach the equivalent of five semester courses per year, to supervise senior theses, and to participate in pedagogical and curricular discussions related to our growing statistics and data science program. Located in Portland, OR, Reed is a distinguished liberal arts college with 1400 students that offers a demanding academic program to bright and dedicated undergraduates. The College has a long tradition of exceptional visiting faculty, and seeks to provide its visitors with the generous professional development support, benefits, and institutional resources commensurate to their significant contribution to our curriculum and intellectual culture.

Applications must be submitted through the MathJobs.org website at https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/jobs/13445 and should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, and three letters of recommendation, one of which should address teaching. The cover letter should address the suitability of the applicant’s teaching and scholarship for the liberal arts college environment. Evaluations of applications will begin on February 1st and will continue until the position is filled.

Reed College is a community that values cultural and intellectual pluralism as essential to the excellence of our academic program. In your cover letter, please also convey how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship and/or community service might support the commitment to diversity and inclusion articulated in the College’s diversity statement (http://www.reed.edu/diversity). An Equal Opportunity Employer, Reed values diversity and encourages applications from underrepresented groups.

Any questions may be directed to the chair of the search committee, Kelly McConville (mcconville@reed.edu).
