Two-Year Visiting Appointment in Theatre (Scenic and Costume Design)

The Reed College Theatre Department invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor appointment in theatre design with an emphasis in costume and scenic design.  This position will begin in August 2019 and continue through the 2020-21 academic year. We seek an innovative teacher/practitioner who will teach design history and practice, an introductory course in scenography, a course in stagecraft, and advanced courses in costume and set design. The successful candidate will design, and supervise the realization of set and costume designs for two mainstage productions per year, and mentor students in the design/construction process for student-directed productions. Additionally, the candidate will mentor students working on year-long senior thesis capstone projects and co-produce the season with the other department faculty. We are especially interested in candidates who are able to teach broadly within the discipline (including courses in theatrical design theory), and who are committed to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment. An M.F.A., Ph.D., or equivalent professional experience in Theatre is required.  Successful college level teaching and professional design experience strongly preferred.
