The Reed College 2013 convocation ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 28, on the Great Lawn. Peter J. Steinberger, Robert H. & Blanche Day Ellis Professor of Political Science & Humanities, delivered the annual Odyssey convocation lecture, and Joel Franklin ’97, associate professor of physics, presented the Howard Vollum Award for Distinguished Accomplishment in Science and Technology to Dr. Kip S. Thorne, Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics Emeritus at California Institute of Technology.
