Adding captions to media in Ensemble

To help with accessibility needs, captions can be added to Ensemble media. Captions can be added in two ways:

Add captions manually in Ensemble

Contact remote-teaching@reed.edu for assistance with Ensemble, our media server.

You can add captions to Ensemble manually.

  1. Log in to ensemble.reed.edu using your Reed login and password, and choose “ReedLDAP” as the identity provider. Go to your appropriate media library.
  2. Find the media you wish to caption and click Edit (pencil icon)

  3. Select the Caption tab near the top of the window

  4. Click the Launch Amara Editor button in the Amara Caption Editor tab (default). Work in the Amara interface to add captions, and then publish your changes. (For more details, see how to add captions in Amara.)

Upload a caption file in Ensemble

Captions are sometimes ordered through an online service. If you have a caption file, follow the steps below to add captions to your Ensemble media. (note: Captions need to be in the web.vtt format )

  1. Log in to ensemble.reed.edu using your Reed login and password, and choose “ReedLDAP” as the identity provider. Go to your appropriate media library.
  2. Find the media you wish to caption and click Edit (pencil icon)le caption edit image
  3. Select the Caption tab near the top of the window

  4. Select the Upload Caption File tab (note: default is Amara Caption Editor)

  5. Click the Add file button and select the caption file you wish to upload

  6. After selecting the file click Start Upload

  7. Wait for the file to upload (this should be rather fast), and then publish the now-captioned media. If needed, you can edit the captions by following the steps above. (See caption media manually in Ensemble.)
