Enabling Cookies in Your Web Browser

If you're having trouble connecting to resources via the Remote Access Proxy, follow these steps to enable cookies in your browser. If you have questions along the way, please contact the Help Desk at cus@reed.edu or call x7525.

Enabling Cookies in Firefox

Firefox (Newest Version)

  1. Open a Firefox browser window.
  2. Click the menu button and choose Preferences

  3. Choose the Privacy & Security tab

  4. Scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data heading, then enable "Accept cookies and site data"

Firefox 4.x

  1. Open a Firefox browser window.
  2. Click the menu button  and choose Preferences
  3. Click the Privacy tab on the left side of the Preferences window.
  4. In the History section, set Firefox will: to Use custom settings for history.
  5. Check Accept cookies from sites to enable cookies.
  6. Completely quit and restart Firefox.

Firefox 3.x

  1. Open a Firefox browser window.
  2. Open the Preferences window.
    • on a Mac, click the Firefox menu, and choose Preferences.
    • on a PC, click the Tools menu, and choose Options.
  3. Click the Privacy tab at the top of the Preferences window.
  4. In the lower window, click the "Accept cookies from sites" checkbox (it is not necessary to select the "Accept third-party cookies" checkbox).
  5. Click OK (or click the red close button) to exit Firefox preferences.
  6. Completely quit and restart Firefox.

Firefox 2.x

  1. Open a Firefox browser window.
  2. Open the Preferences window.
    • on a Mac, click the Firefox menu, and choose Preferences.
    • on a PC, click the Tools menu, and choose Options.
  3. Click the Privacy tab on the left side of the Preferences window. In the right window, click on the word "Cookies", and make sure the Cookies window is expanded.
  4. Check the box next to Allow sites to set cookies.
  5. Click OK (or click the red close button) to exit Firefox preferences.
  6. Completely quit and restart Firefox.

Enabling Cookies in Safari

  1. Open a Safari browser window.
  2. Go to Safari → Preferences

  3. Go to the Privacy tab and click "Allow from websites I visit".

Enabling Cookies in Google Chrome

  1. Open a Chrome browser window.
  2. Click the menu button and select Settings. Alternatively, enter chrome://settings into the search bar.Chrome Settings
  3. Scroll down and select Advanced.

  4. Select Consent Settings.

  5. Select Cookies.

  6. Enable "Allow sites to save and read cookie data".
