Growing Seeds at Crystal Springs (GS/CS) learning community opened in August of 2015. The center is located on the northwest corner of the Reed College campus. Growing Seeds features five beautiful classrooms, indoor play-space/gym, playgrounds, and access to the Reed campus and canyon. The center is open from 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, and care is available for children ages from 6 weeks to 5 years.
Growing Seeds is passionate about
- working with children and families;
- connecting children with natural environments;
- science and the arts;
- farm-to-table meals;
- the art of teaching;
- social justice;
- anti-bias education.
Children spend time daily in the classroom and on the playground exploring ideas, making connections about the world, and co-constructing curricula with their teachers. Children and teachers also spend time exploring the Reed campus, especially the Reed canyon! Lunches and snacks are prepared on-site, with many of the organic and local foods coming from the Growing Seeds farm (located in Corbett, OR).
Growing Seeds provides cloth diapers for each child throughout the day, made available by Tidee Didee Diaper service, and families are welcome to take advantage of this service at no additional cost.
Reed families receive priority on waiting lists at Crystal Springs, and a 10% tuition discount. Growing Seeds also makes a limited number of scholarships covering 25%–50% of tuition available to qualifying Reed families.
Currently, Growing Seeds is operating from a waiting list for all ages. We encourage joining the waiting list at the earliest possible point you anticipate a childcare need. (Names are kept confidential and not shared with Reed.) In order to join the waiting list a tour is required. For information about tours, please contact the Director, Sarah Kilkenny.
Enrollment for the 2017–2018 school year will begin in February 2017.
