Favorite places/things to do in Portland: Thrift and eat on Hawthorne.
Reed pro tip: I'm glad I took a break from career-related obligations my freshman year of college and focused on my studies along with self-caring. Also, the following I picked up a nanny position in LA instead of interning or studying. Taking it easy and slow has helped me multi-task in the long run.
Ask me about: building/designing an online portfolio, getting a foot into media careers, finding programs for underrepresented students, and being productive while not doing anything.
Keegan Samaniego '21, Anthropology or Sociology, They/them/their
Area Group: The Grove
Community of Purpose: Education and Human Potential
Career Interests: My career interests are widely varied. Currently, I am focused on Social Science research and possibly grad school! Previously, I have been focused on nonprofits, social justice, and government. Ideally, I will be able to mix social science research with something in the social justice field!
Career-related experiences: Most of the work I have done has been retail. I have worked at Nike and Starbucks all through high school. Since coming to Reed I have been working at the front desk of Prexy as a strategic partners intern. I have also done a lot of social justice volunteer work and served on the diversity advisory committee of my hometown.
Favorite places/things to do in Portland: I love going downtown to the Portland Art Museum and exploring the Sellwood neighborhood!
Reed pro tip: Find something non academic to get really involved in! Your studies are important, but it's nice to have something
Ask me about: Applying for Scholarships; Careers in Social Justice; How to use the CLBR job database; Navigating the professional world when you're trans!
Simon Couch ’21, Mathematics/Statistics, He/him/his

Career-related experiences: Since I came to Reed, I've been a van driver on-campus driving for a few clubs and activities. Last January, I did a winter shadow through CLBR with a local healthcare clinic working with genetic and patient outcome data. I also worked in an on-campus research position last summer studying database privacy. In addition to working as a Peer Career Advisor, I am a House Adviser in ODB!
Favorite places/things to do in Portland: Forest Park, Powell Butte, and Marquam are all great for hiking. Cloud City is hands down the best ice cream in the city.
Reed pro tip: Two things: 1) make your dorm as cozy as possible, and 2) take every chance you can get to go to the ski cabin!

Favorite places/things to do in Portland: I love walking around the Pearl district in downtown Portland and eating at Tilt or going to Sellwood and eating at Saburo's. Portland has amazing restaurants and food carts so I usually go out and eat whenever I get off campus.
Reed pro tip: I recommend getting involved as soon as possible on campus, whether it be through a club, a job, or any other extracurriculars. I got a job at the bookstore during orientation week and it helped me make friends and spend a few hours of my week doing something that I found fun and productive.
Ask me about: Working while at Reed and finding summer opportunities!
Isabel Hoff ’21, Environmental Studies - Biology, She/her/hers
Area Group: Environmental Studies, Biology
Career Interests: Sustainable Architecture and Design, International/Intercultural Affairs
Career-related experiences: In high school I was a youth ambassador through AFS and YES Abroad intercultural exchanges, through which I lived in France and Morocco. This summer I am returning to intern/volunteer at the same NGO, thanks to the internship funding I got through CLBR! In high school I also worked at an ice-rink and in a restaurant. Here at Reed I work as a Teacher for the Science Outreach Program and seamstress in the theatre department costume shop. I am also a mentor through PMP!
Favorite places/things to do in Portland: Watching the sunrise from Pittock Mansion, and going hiking anywhere in the PNW.
Reed pro tip: I'm glad I joined PMP and got jobs that got me involved in communities on campus. I also love taking advantage of clubs on campus, such as ROC and the Surf Club! I also do capoeira as my PE and go to capoeira classes off campus up to 3 times a week, which has been a great way to become involved in a non-Reed community in Portland.
