316 Ian Hamilton Finlay works in Special Collections
1223 images
Known as the father of British concrete poetry, the work of Ian Hamilton Finlay relies heavily on a traditional architectural and subject matter dealing with social political conflicts from the Grecian empire to the present. Finlay was a student of modernism as well as classical philosophy, which is distinctly apparent upon first glance of this publication. Finlay’s projects appear as both social and political commentaries on nature, culture, and modernity, while still maintaining the enigma of a bygone era. He incorporated his poetry with gardening, stonework, and bookmaking, at Little Sparta, Stoneypath Garden where he runs Wild Hawthorn Press
