Art 182 - Material Objects
A crafts based course that focuses on the form, function and concept of handmade objects in our society. The class will learn skills in hand built and thrown clay forms, casting and fabricating with ceramics, wax and glass. The assignments will explore the poetic language of each material, fusing the analog and the digital, and will focus on cooperative and community based works that can emerge from these mediums. Readings will focus on social practices and culturally significant, politically motivated works made for and with communities. Students will have technical workshops with studio assistant in glass and ceramics weekly.
