Anthropology Dept Summer Funds:
All declared anthropology majors are encouraged to apply for Anthropology Dept Summer Funds to help support thesis or class-related research, or an anthropology-related (online) internship. To make sure that we distribute funds to as many students as possible, we're capping awards at $750.00.

Rising seniors take precedence, especially those with high financial need in these tough times (for thesis-related research, for support in researching a thesis topic to prepare a thesis proposal). Potential projects might include: online ethnographic work (interviews via video chat, research in/on virtual communities), plans for research on thesis topics to produce a thesis proposal, plans for course-related projects (to produce a paper/media project/photographic essay/video at the end), or an anthro-related internship (that can be pursued safely). Budget requests can include living expenses.

The College has declared that we cannot fund any travel, and the IRB committee has declared that all in-person human subjects research will be discontinued. That means we cannot fund requests for conference travel or field schools. So consider projects that you can do in place and online or through safe social distancing practices.

To apply, see the webpage for Anthropology Summer Funds on our Dept webpage. We will take applications on a rolling basis through May 1, 2020 (but best to apply as soon as you can so that you can plan). Note that you should also look to other college-wide resources for summer funds, though they too might be curtailed given the current situation.
