Martin Luther King Jr. Day Panel & Discussion: Housing Justice in Portland

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19, the Office for Inclusive Community will host a panel discussion on gentrification and housing discrimination in Portland. Invited panelists will bring varied perspectives on how Oregon's history and policies have shaped current housing realities in Portland, and local movements to address housing discrimination and the affects of gentrification. Panelists are Karen Gibson, Walidah Imarisha, and Ahjamu Umi, with Reiko Hillyer as moderator. The event also will include a poetry performance by fifth-grader Aslan Newson, and a music performance by Paapa hMensa ’15 with Trevor Williams. Additionally ssponsored by SEEDS, Residence Life, Student Activities, and Student and Campus Life.
