Sustainability at Reed
Grant Proposal Projects Announcement
The Sustainability Committee is pleased to announce the awarding of On Campus Sustainability Projects. Fifteen thought-provoking proposals were submitted by the Reed community. Project funds will be provided to:
- encourage bicycle use through evaluating increased and convenient covered bike parking possibilities, sponsoring bicycle clinics, and having a recyclable panniers workshop
- promote deskside recycling in the cross canyon residence halls - Bragdon, Chittick, Woodbridge, Griffin, and McKinley
- save electricity by researching and installing motion sensing lights in certain key locations
- conserve fuel use and heating costs by equipping faculty housing with programmable thermostats
Project funds came from the Reed College Student Body, which dedicated 2% of student body funds, and the President’s Office, which has committed to match those funds (approximately $6,000 per entity, $12000 total), to support projects for 2009-2010.
Suggestions and proposals are always welcome. All ideas are considered throughout the year on a rolling first-come first-considered basis. Proposals are evaluated for practicality, impact on sustainability, and cost. If you have a small suggestion, or a large proposal, or would simply like more information, send us an email.
