Gray Fund Trip Signups

Gray Fund Trip Lotteries

Below are some frequently asked questions about the process for getting on a Gray Fund trip. Please ask us if you do not find the answer to your question.

How do I get a spot on a Gray Fund trip?

To get on a Gray Fund trip you must sign up for a lottery. Lotteries open a week before the posted lottery date.

Cultural Trips - visit the student center
Outdoor Trips - visit the outdoor center in the sports center

How do I know when the lotteries are held?

Lottery deadline information is listed on the posters and the online schedule. Look for the lines that says "Lottery." Lottery deadlines vary each week, so be sure to double-check. You do not need to be present to win a lottery.

How many people can go on a trip?

Trip numbers vary depending on the type of trip, safety factors, and cost. Often, trips include 13 participants, one faculty or staff leader, and one driver.

Can faculty and staff members attend?

Yes! We encourage faculty and staff to take advantage of Gray Fund trips. Since this is such a great way to meet students, we hold two or three spots in each trip for faculty and staff members. If faculty or staff do not attend, we release these spots into the general lottery.

What if I forget about the lottery?

Trips that don't fill up at the lottery will be available for sign ups. To inquire about open spots, email Jamila Dozier at dozierj@reed.edu regarding cultural trips or Sarah Lange. regarding recreational trips.

What if I get a spot but can't go after all?

Email the appropriate office and let us know. Many students that are interested in the trip but were not admitted via lottery would love your spot. Contact us at least 24 hours ahead of time so we have a chance to email others.

What if I don't get on a trip but really want to go?

There are many trips that fill up but then have no-shows at the departure time. We will usually fill these spots on a first-come, first-served basis. An exception is any outdoor trip that requires a packing list. Trips meet at the van parking area on Botsford Drive, behind the sports center.
