I was born and raised in Oregon. I joined the US Army in 1966 and spent two, one year tours in South Vietnam. After the service I spent 27 years as a firefighter/ EMT with the City of Portland retiring in 2001.
I started rafting whitewater in the mid 1970’s and became a licensed outfitter/ guide in 1979 I’ve competed in international whitewater events, helped write books on whitewater rafting, and have done first descents on rivers in the northwest and abroad. Whitewater rafting is my passion and I enjoy passing on my skills to new boaters.
I’ve been married to my wife Linda for 29 years. I have two daughters and a son, a granddaughter and a grandson.
