I was first introduced to yoga in 1995. This sparked 10 years of investigation of different styles of yoga, qigong and martial arts, after which I decided to dedicate myself to a consistent study and practice of yoga and related subjects. I have been a student of the Shadow School of Yoga since 2005. I first studied Shadow with Matt Huish at the Yoga Shala of Portland starting in 2005, and in 2006 I began working directly with the founder of Shadow Yoga, Zhander Remete, and his partner Emma Balnaves. From 2007-2009 I participated in the Yoga Shala of Portland's Teacher Training and Advanced Studies Program. My approach is also influenced by vinyasa and ashtanga yoga, ayurveda, Chinese qigong, martial arts, North Indian/hindustani classical vocal (raga), and jyotish (vedic astrology). For me, yoga is much more than a set of exercises: it is a comprehensive system that engages body, mind and spirit in order to allow one to discover their true nature.
