Cycling to Service

Instructor:

Cycling to Service: Biking to and Volunteering at the Community Cycling Center

This class will be a combination of a physical education class and SEEDS supported volunteer service at the non-profit organization the Community Cycling Center, located in the Northeast Alberta Neighborhood. Over the course of the class, students will learn about basic bicycle safety, basic bicycle maintenance, and Portland bicycle routes as well as complete approximately 14 miles of cycling per class going to and from the Community Cycling Center (CCC) for their Sunday night drop-in volunteer night. The group will meet at Reed at 2pm every Sunday afternoon (first & fourth quarter) and return to Reed around  6pm.

Cycling to Service is a PE course that consists of riding bikes from Reed to the Community Cycling Center in NE Portland (roughly 8-9 miles one way). Once there, we assist with repairing kid's bikes for the CCC's annual Holiday Bike Drive, and then ride home.

Essentially, we ride bikes to a shop, help fix them--so as an added bonus, you gain skills as a bike mechanic--and then ride back. Fairly straightforward.
