Below are some of the health care–related volunteer opportunities known to SEEDS. Openings are sometimes limited and trainings may only be offered once or twice per year. Plan ahead to ensure that the opportunity you are interested in fits with your schedule.

Alzheimer's Association

Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer's Association advances research to end Alzheimer's and dementia while enhancing care for those living with the disease. Their volunteers are passionate and inspired, and they want to make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Whether you can spare a couple of hours a week or make a more significant time commitment, we hope you will consider joining this very special community.

Cascade AIDS Project (CAP)

Cascade AIDS Project's mission is to prevent HIV infections, support and empower people living with or affected by HIV, and eliminate HIV-related stigma and health disparities. Founded in 1983 and incorporated in 1985 as the Cascade AIDS Project, CAP is the oldest and largest community-based provider of HIV services, housing, education and advocacy in Oregon and Southwest Washington. CAP has grown considerably since its beginning, from a two person staff to over 60, from a budget of $100,000 to over $6 million. Coalition of Community Health Clinics

The mission of the Coalition of Community Health Clinics is to improve healthcare for vulnerable populations residing in the Portland-metro area. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon (NPCO)

NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon (NPCO) is dedicated to developing and sustaining a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman and person who can become pregnant the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon is a community of grassroots-driven activists and volunteers committed to protecting the reproductive rights of all Oregonians. North by Northeast Community Health Center is the only medical clinic in Oregon focused on African American health and exists to improve health outcomes and advance health equity by offering primary care services focused on chronic health conditions affecting the local African American population.

Outside In

Outside In's mission is to help homeless youth and other marginalized people move towards improved health and self-sufficiency. At Outside In, your time and talent truly make a difference. Volunteers help support homeless people who need to see a doctor, students furthering their education or employment prospects, and homeless youth who need basic resources like meals and hygiene supplies. Reproductive Justice

Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is the largest non-profit family planning and reproductive rights organization in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Their mission is to provide, promote, and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care.Volunteers are an important part of Planned Parenthood. Hospice

 

Kaiser Permanente Hospice Volunteer Program

Volunteers play a vital role on the team for Kaiser Hospice patients and their families. As valued members of the hospice team, volunteers can make a difference by providing a break for a family caregiver (called respite), visiting patients in care homes and facilities, run errands or provide some light housekeeping, or assisting staff in the office.

Providence Medical Center Hospice

Volunteers are essential to the special care Providence Hospice provides. Whether a volunteer is helping families, visiting patients, consoling the bereaved or assisting with office tasks, each contributes greatly to the quality of life for the people we serve. Providence ElderPlace is an innovative program known as PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly), a comprehensive care model that offers health, housing, social service and care coordination solutions to older adults and peace of mind to their families. Children’s Cancer Association (CCA)

When seriously ill children, teens, and their families need more than medicine, CCA’s innovative programs create joy one moment at a time. CCA’s 1,900+ amazing volunteers invest an estimated 14,113 hours of their time in our programs and events each year. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization: they mentor children, share their musical talents, staff community events, host toy drives, and serve on our leadership boards. Providence Child Center

Morrison Child and Family Services

Morrison Child and Family Services partners with families and communities to provide effective and responsive services for children and youth coping with adversity and trauma. Morrison delivers specialized services to children, from birth through age 21, and families coping with abuse, neglect, domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction, mental health difficulties, criminality, and other harmful stress factors. Doernbecher Children's Hospital

As a volunteer, you make an invaluable contribution to our patients, families, staff and visitors. No matter how you serve, your contribution helps make Doernbecher a unique children's health care center. In 2010, 456 Doernbecher volunteers contributed 32,175 hours to patients and families.
