Friends of the Children Tutoring @ Reed
Friends of the Children provides our community’s most vulnerable children with full-time, paid, professionally trained mentors (called Friends) to ensure that each child has a positive, consistent and supportive adult in his or her life. We begin working with children in Kindergarten and continue to support them for 12 1/2 years, through high school graduation. This year, SEEDS will partner with Friends of the Children to increase the academic success of their students by matching a group of them with Reed students for basic academic tutoring in math, reading, writing and other areas as needed on the Reed campus. Most students will be in 3rd through 5th grade, though some may be older. Tutors make a year-long commitment to the program to tutor once a week for 10 weeks each semester on either Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Previous tutoring experience is helpful, but no required as training will be provided. This program qualifies for the Off-Campus Federal Work Study Community Service.
