Reed Students

Reed College was founded in 1908 in Portland, Oregon, as an independent, co-ed, nonsectarian college of the liberal arts and sciences.

The college provides one of the nation’s most intellectually rigorous undergraduate experiences, with a highly structured academic program. Reed's campus is on a beautiful 116-acre tree-lined campus in residential southeast Portland. Although we are small, we are able to support our students with a variety of key resources that we laid out for our students for easier accessibility.

House Adviser

House Advisers are student staff members who live in the dorms. Each Resident Director supervises between 6-16 House Advisers, in areas of campus referred to as Area Groups. The role of the House Adviser is to assist in enhancing the residential housing experience for students at Reed College.

At Reed College, our House Advisers are community builders first and foremost, it is not an expectation that they are "enforcers" of policy like many institutions. With that in mind, some of the most important attributes of are student staff include: being a good steward/ambassador of Res Life, communicating respectfully, punctuality, self-reflection, open-mindedness, accountability, understanding and abiding by the Honor Principle, and a collaborative nature.
