Sallyportal: Madly Blogging Reed

What does diversity mean to you?

That was one of the questions put to the Reed community at a photo booth event last month. As part of the creation of a comprehensive new diversity web presence, the Committee on Diversity set up shop in Commons and prompted students, faculty, and staff to ponder the following questions:

  • What does diversity mean to you?
  • Why are diversity and inclusiveness important?
  • In what way is your education at Reed enhanced by cultural, intellectual, and social pluralism?
  • How have your thoughts on diversity and inclusiveness changed since becoming a Reedie?
  • How do you add to Reed's inclusiveness?

It's no surprise that Reedies took this task seriously. Over 100 people participated, contributing comments and posing for photos that are by turns thought-provoking, cheeky, irreverent, and bold.

In addition to the entire collection of photos and statements, the site also includes the Committee on Diversity's mission statement and details about its work, an exploration of academics and diversity at Reed, and information on programming and student groups that support dialogue on diversity issues.
