Class of 2008 selected from largest applicant pool in history

Reed welcomed 339 freshmen to campus this fall, selected from nearly 2,500 applicants. The class of 2008 is the most diverse class in Reed’s history.

  • 44% men, 56% women
  • Average SAT score: 1368
  • 82% in top 20% of class
  • Average high school GPA: 3.8 (includes weighted GPAs)
  • From 43 states and the District of Columbia
  • 24% from California, 17% from Pacific Northwest
  • 8% international citizens, from 13 countries: Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Romania, Turkey, and Zimbabwe
  • 25% declared students of color: 12% Asian, 5% Latino, 4% African American, 2% Native American, 2% biracial/other
  • 16% chose not to report ethnicity
  • 12% first-generation college students
  • Transfers came from schools including UC-Santa Cruz, Bennington, Boston College, Bryn Mawr, Middlebury, NYU, Portland Community College, USC, Wesleyan, and University of Wisconsin
