| “The first rule of knitting
club is. . . . don’t talk about knitting club.” This phrase
from a Reed Midnight Theater lampoon was cited in the fall 2002 issue
of Interweave Knits magazine, a contemporary journal on knitting.
A reporter for the magazine was researching a story on how campuses
are now “crawling with knitters,” and she went online
and discovered junior Laura Birek’s Paideia knitting class.
Birek, a theatre and literature major, is featured prominently in
the article (“the late-night knitter”). Also mentioned
is Reed’s Harry Potter Reading Club, which they say boasts several
avid knitters who churn out scarves in red and gold, the colors of
Gryffindor House. |
