Artist books by alumni sought for exhibition
In conjunction with Alumni College 2003, “Humanism
in the Digital World: Letterform and Text from Renaissance Times to
Today,” June
4–6, the Reed College art department will mount the exhibition
Letterform, Text, and Image of artist books by Reed alumni.
Alumni are invited to contribute work to this exhibition, which will be
mounted in the recently renovated Edith Feldenheimer Gallery in the studio
arts building from June 1 through June 9.
The exhibition will focus on books addressing the manipulation
of the visual form of language, the submergence of image and text,
and
the
reading of visual imagery. The works may be one-of-a-kind or limited
edition.
They may be in the form of a portfolio bind, a traditional codex,
an accordion, a pamphlet, or an unconventional sculptural book.
One section of the gallery will be turned into a library-like environment
for visitors to view the edition works with gloves at tables. Throughout
the gallery, limited edition works, one-of-a-kind works, and featured
works will be enclosed in cases.
If an alumnus’s work is already in Reed’s collection of artist
books it will be included, but the art department would like to
show new work as well. Alumni who are willing to contribute at least
one work
to the exhibition may email Donna White ’01 at donna.s.white@reed.edu,
and she will send you the application form. Entry forms must be
received by March 30, 2003, and the work must be received by May
30.
