Stephen Frantz, director of Reed’s research reactor, has been chosen to serve on the executive committee of the National Organization of Test, Research, and Training Reactors (TRTR). It is the only organization that works on behalf of the 28 research reactors in the U.S.“ It is an honor to be selected to the executive committee of TRTR, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to help shape the future of research reactors in the United States,” said Frantz. The executive committee includes members from institutions such as MIT, OSU, the Armed Forces Radiobio-logy Research Institute, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.reactor

TRTR focuses on reactor safety and facilitates communication among reactor researchers, who seek advice from each other and share lessons learned. TRTR also finds sources of funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and other agencies, and monitors regulations.

Reed College is the only undergraduate institution in the nation with a nuclear reactor, says Frantz, and the only facility with a large number of students who help run the reactor and are licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. End of Article
