![]() Alumni survey and directory 2000Reed College is currently conducting a survey of all Reed alumni in preparation for the 2000 alumni directory. To all those who have already mailed in the survey form-a heartfelt thanks. For those who have not yet filled out the form, I encourage you to do so.Approximately every five years we update our records and produce a directory for alumni. The directory offers several sortings: by name, by geographic area, class-year, and an alphabetical listing by last name. Although we ask for additional information on the survey form, only basic contact information is printed in the directory. Alumni may elect to suppress their contact data or job title. With the 2000 directory we have taken steps to reduce the cost of production and provide you with access to more current information. Sometime during the summer of 2000 a free version of the directory will be available online. This will be a secure web site and, as with the printed version, only other alumni with the appropriate passwords will have access to it. For those who wish a printed directory there is a cost of $10-calculated to cover the cost of printing and mailing. The printed version will be mailed in the fall of 2000 to those who ordered it with the form on the survey. Some alumni have asked me about the questions on the survey form that are in addition to basic contact data. We use this opportunity to ask for information that is used for college programs, e.g. admission marketing, fundraising, career advising, reunions planning, volunteer recruitment, grant proposals to foundations, and magazine article leads. Perhaps most importantly, we use the data to help current students tap into the rich resource of alumni for mentorships, internships, host homes, and career advising. The information helps us look for ways for alumni to create meaningfully involvement with the campus community, and participate in the future of Reed. These connections can be forged with enough information about you as student and you in your current stage of life. If you have not yet filled out your survey, I encourage you to do it today.
