Reed and accreditation

Please help us with the accreditation process by filling out an online survey concerning your experience as a major at http://www.reed.edu/academic/accred/. If you would like to participate and do not have web access, please call Jon Rivenburg (503/777-7503) for a copy of the survey.

Reed is now in the process of undertaking an institution-wide self-study, done every ten years. In October 1999, a team of evaluators from our regional accrediting body, the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, will visit Reed. By completing a survey regarding your third and fourth year at Reed, you can help us assess our educational program. While Reed's status as an accredited institution is not in doubt, this process of reaccreditation allows us to ask ourselves: what is our mission, how well do we do it, and how can we do it better? By having all areas of the college consider these questions, the study serves as a planning document for the college as a whole.

The accreditation process is being overseen by the accreditation steering committee, appointed by the president. It includes Alisha Baines '00; Enriqueta Canseco-Gonzalez, psychology; Martha Darling '66, trustee; Leila Falk, music; Victoria Hanawalt, librarian; Norman Lezin '48, trustee; Patrick McDougal, chemistry; Nora McLaughlin, registrar; Lisa Pickert, student services; Jon Rivenburg, institutional research; Ed Segel, history; Ellen Stauder, English and chair.

Seeking nominations

The Reed alumni board is seeking nominations for the alumni volunteer awards program. Each year the alumni board honors outstanding alumni who have helped the Reed offices of admission, alumni relations, fundraising, or career advising. In addition, the board recognizes an overall outstanding alumni volunteer. Please send nominations and a brief statement explaining why the volunteer deserves an award to Ethel Katz '46, c/o Alumni Relations, Reed College, 3203 SE Woodstock, Portland OR 97202-8199 or email alumni@reed.edu.
